活字印印刷术是中国古代著名的四大发明之一,随着时代发展和科技的进步,早已消逝在人们的生活之中。
我们的设计委托方茶颜悦色,是“新中式茶饮”品牌,以传递中国传统文化为己任。在给受众带来独具特色的产品的同时,产品也将作为文化传递的载体和媒介,在受众群体之中广泛传播。委托方希望通过当代的设计语言,将古老的文化与智慧传递和呈现给当代的年轻受众。
“活字印刷”距今1000多年,当代受众对它的基础认识主要集中在:小方块、文字、雕刻、灵活组合。我们首先要解决的问题是材料的问题,这也是设计载体的问题。
青砖是一种传统的建筑材料,可以满足单一几何体的无限组合变化,与受众对活字印刷的基础认知吻合。但青砖的色彩厚重,较硬朗,我们选择了原木材质来平衡。原木材质的特性是较柔软,色彩可以根据青砖的用量进行选择。
空间的设计语言上,我们进行了分层的梳理。首层为产品售卖区,二层通过体块的统一与变化,表达“活字印刷”的“灵活”,三层通过互动装置体验“字”“雕刻”与“印刷”的趣味。四层设置了“自律门”、“迷你展台”,在综合呈现“活字印刷”的同时,也增加了受众在观览体验中的丰富性。整个项目我们使用了约八万块青砖,每一口青砖都是从已废弃的老房屋中拆卸下来的。这些青砖平均使用的时间在80年以上,历经了约一个世纪的日晒风吹雨水洗刷,每一口青砖的机理都不同,自然且生动。
Movabletype printing is one of the four famous inventions of ancient China. With thedevelopment of time and progress of science and technology, it has alreadyfaded away in people's lives.
Ourdesign client, Cha Yan Yue Se (the sexy tea), is a brand of "ModernChinese Tea", which takes on responsibility for passing on Chinesetraditional culture. We bring unique products to the audience, which will alsoserve as a carrier and medium for cultural transmission and will be widelyspread among the audiences. The client hopes to convey and present the ancientculture and wisdom to young people through a contemporary design language.
Thehistory of movable type printing can date back to more than 1,000 years ago.For people in nowadays, their basic understanding of it mainly focuses onfeatures such as small squares, characters, engraving and flexible combination.The first problem we had to solve was that of the material, which is also thedesign medium.
Greenbrick is a traditional building material that can accommodate the infinitecombinations of a single geometry. This coincides with the audiences’ basicperception of movable type printing. As the brick material is thicker and morerigid, we chose to balance it with wood. The log material is soft and its colorcan be chosen according to the amount of bricks used.
Interms of the design language of the space, we made a layered arrangement. Thefirst floor is the product sales area, the second floor expresses theflexibility of "movable type printing" through the unity andvariation of the blocks, and the third floor enables audiences to experiencethe fun of “word”, "engraving" and "printing" throughinteractive devices. On the fourth floor, we have set up a"self-discipline door" and a "mini-booth", which not onlypresents "movable type printing", but also enriches the audiences’experience in viewing the exhibition.
About80,000 bricks were used for the entire project, with each brick being removedfrom an old- abandoned house. These bricks were used for over 80 years onaverage, and have been exposed to the sun, wind, and rain for about a century,which makes each one naturally different and distinctive.
