As an art institution in Indonesia, LINDA Gallery has promoted the artworks of many outstanding Chinese artists. Therefore, the design intention is to offer richer experience for the audience, hence highlighting the uniqueness of the Gallery.
Inspired from film clips about shop window, the designers adopt “showcase” as the starting point of the whole design to explore the relationship between human and art. On one hand, a certain distance should be kept to better enjoy artworks. While on the other hand, the audience should have deeper interaction with artworks. Therefore, “showcase” is a perfect choice to show the relationship.
The long entrance hall is divided into two parts by the staircase leading to the mezzanine. In order to reduce this feeling of splitting, Exhibition Hall No.1 and Exhibition Hall No.2 are integrated into an elongated circle, surrounded by abstract showcases that are separated from the exhibition wall. Located at the central axis of two halls, the staircase serves as the changing point of visiting circulation.
At the end of Exhibition Hall No.1, soft natural light reflected from the mezzanine window shines upon the staircase. There are gaps between the corner of staircase and mezzanine that allow light to pass through, making the staircase record the changes of light like a clock. Some showcases in Exhibition Hall No.2 are set as rest areas. Furthermore, in order to enrich viewing experience, Exhibition Hall No.3 has a simpler structure with more works for visitors.
